Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, sleepy town. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar to its significance. It is often believed that it is an island that lies west of Montreal however it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time there was short. Brugel grew up in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. When she was a child, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 feet 1 inches tall. Once I surpassed all my male partners, I stopped. Former dancers often turn into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from her teacher in drama. Her teacher invited her to try out for roles in a school production. After trying out the role, she was chosen as the main character for Anne of Green Gables. She was given an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Brugel's career spans over twenty years, and she's appeared in 60 different productions, both on big screens and on smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was the one of Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian member.
